Some clients ask me if they should buy particular containers before we begin our organizing sessions. My response to them is ‘no’. There are all sorts of storage bins, file folders and paper sorters for sale out there, but buying containers at random doesn’t necessarily solve the organizational problems.

Not until we have sorted the items, and my client decides what to keep, do we focus on the types of storage containers/shelving we will need for storage. Often, the client already has storage items at home that can be used. So, before you hire a professional organizer or do the organizing yourself, don’t make any rash purchases until you know what your needs are.
